Responsible Use of AI at Samaritans of Texas
At Samaritans of Texas, we believe technology should support people—not replace them. We use artificial intelligence (AI) tools in a limited, responsible way to help us communicate clearly, stay organized, and reach more neighbors in need. This page explains how we use AI, how we don’t use it, and the safeguards we keep in place.
How We Use AI
Samaritans of Texas uses AI tools only in supporting roles, such as:
Drafting and editing social media posts, emails, and website content
Designing images and layouts for outreach and events
Organizing ideas for programs, campaigns, and community education
Assisting with basic administrative tasks and planning
In all of these areas, AI is simply a creative and organizational helper. It does not make decisions about people, programs, or services.
How We Do Not Use AI
We do not use AI to:
Decide who does or does not receive help
Score, rank, or profile donors, volunteers, or community members
Replace pastoral care, counseling, or human judgment
Provide medical, legal, or safety advice
Create explicit, harmful, deceptive, or hateful content
Any decisions that affect people—especially those we serve—are always made by real people, not algorithms.
Human Review and Oversight
Even when AI tools are used to draft or suggest content:
A staff member reviews, edits, and approves all public-facing content
Communications are checked for accuracy, clarity, and tone
We compare outputs to our mission, values, and principles of honesty, dignity, and compassion
AI may help us save time or find better wording, but human beings are always responsible for what we publish and how we communicate.
Our Ethical & Faith-Aligned Commitments
As a nonprofit serving Central Texas, we are committed to using technology in ways that:
Honor the dignity and privacy of every person
Avoid discrimination or unfair treatment of any group
Refuse to exploit fear, shame, or vulnerability
Support—not overshadow—real human connection and care
We prohibit the use of AI for any purpose that is harmful, exploitative, deceptive, or inconsistent with our mission to “serve the underserved” with integrity and compassion.
